What is MX record?
Posted by kumar, Last modified by Kim S. on 26 January 2016 07:28 PM

MX is the short name for Mail exchange. This is a DNS zone record, which is responsible for where your email messages will be routed to.

The machine that the MX record points (represented as a hostname) to, must have a mail server running onto and it should be listening to the common ports (25 for SMTP, 110 for POP3, 143 for IMAP).
